Interests:Nancy is an Egyptian, Muslim, Arabic speaker who has spent time as a child and adolescent living and studying in both the U.S. and Egypt. After graduating from the American International School in Cairo, Egypt, she studied psychology at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Illinois and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology with Departmental Honors. During that time, she worked with children and families in the community involved in the legal system. She continued her education at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, completing a Masters of Arts in Clinical Psychology. During that time, she worked with children and families in an inpatient residential treatment center. She still kept studying and continued her graduate education as a Counseling Psychology doctoral student at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. There she worked with adolescents in an alternative high school and with college students in counseling centers.
Nancy has been active in African, Arab, Egyptian, and Saudi student organizations and feels passionate about providing services to all students, and especially in doing outreach, consultation, and collaboration with communities. Nancy’s areas of experience, interest, and research are with immigrant and international students, ethnic minority and underserved populations, Muslims, and Arabic-speakers. She also has experience and interest in helping students in their career exploration and decision making process. She works from an interpersonal approach and enjoys advocating for students and assisting them in learning about themselves, the world around them, and the resources available to them.
