Dr. Scott Becker
Associate Director Counseling Center
Interest:Dr. Becker received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1995 following his pre-doctoral internship at the University of Notre Dame. Over the past thirteen years he has worked in a number of university counseling centers, including Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he served as Multicultural Coordinator; the University of Oregon, where he served as the Assistant Training Director; and most recently the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY, where he served as the Assistant Director and Director of Training (overseeing the supervision and training of graduate-level externs, pre-doctoral interns and post-doctoral fellows). Dr. Becker’s clinical and research interests are primarily informed by archetypal psychology; they include grief and mourning; depression men’s issues; multiculturalism; couples and family therapy; dreams; trauma and recovery from abuse; existential and spiritual issues; non-Western approaches to psychotherapy; narrative and qualitative research; the therapeutic value of metaphor and imagination; and the role of psychotherapy in the development of multicultural, political, and ecological awareness.
